Stalking Victim Moei Harukawa Killed in Pokémon Center AttackA tragic stabbing occurred on Thursday evening around 7:15 p.m. at Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo inside Sunshine City, Ikebukuro. 21-year-old Moei Harukawa (春川萌衣), a part-time store employee from Hachioji, Tokyo, was attacked by 26-year-old Daiki Hirokawa (広川大起), her former boyfriend. Harukawa was stabbed multiple times in the neck and other areas while working behind the counter.

Hirokawa then turned the knife on himself. Both were rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead.Harukawa had previously reported Hirokawa for stalking to police. He was arrested in late 2025 on suspicion of violating the Anti-Stalking Law. A prohibition order was issued, and police had advised her on safety measures, including temporary relocation. Despite these steps, the follow-up measures failed to prevent the fatal attack. The pair had dated before breaking up in July 2025.

The Pokémon Company has closed the store and adjacent café indefinitely to cooperate with the investigation and support staff. This incident has shocked fans and raised serious questions about gaps in Japan’s anti-stalking protections, coming as the second fatal case at the Sunshine City complex in recent months. Many are mourning Harukawa, who was fulfilling her dream of working at the popular Pokémon store.
