Man in China Become Fluent in Japanese After Watching Over 4000 JAVS

May 5, 2025 by Japan Daily Leave a Comment

Jakku Song, a Chinese national, has gained widespread attention for achieving N2-level certification in the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) by self-teaching through watching 4,545 Japanese adult videos (AV). Without formal language training, Song’s fascination with Japanese AV culture led him to learn the language through extensive viewing and imitation, a method he credits for his success in passing the N2, a qualification that enables admission to Japanese universities and vocational schools.

Song announced his achievement in a theatrical YouTube video posted on December 3, 2024, which has amassed over 864,000 views. Displaying his N2 certificate, he humorously thanked prominent Japanese AV actresses, including Sola Aoi, Tsukasa Aoi, Kana Momonogi, and Suzu Honjo, referring to them as his “teachers.” The video concluded with Song lying amid piles of used tissues, playfully alluding to his learning process. On his YouTube channel and Instagram, where he brands himself as “Asia’s Last Gentleman” and “Prince of Dirty Jokes,” Song discusses provocative topics in Japanese, promoting messages of peace and love.

Japanese social media users have largely praised Song’s dedication, with comments highlighting the effectiveness of unconventional learning methods. One user noted, “Achieving N2 certification is remarkable, regardless of the method,” while another remarked, “The number of tissues equals his language skills.” The JLPT, administered by the Japan Foundation, assesses non-native speakers’ proficiency across five levels, from N5 (beginner) to N1 (advanced). The N2 level, requiring mastery of approximately 1,000 kanji and 6,000 vocabulary words, typically demands 600–900 hours of formal study. Song’s success underscores the potential of immersive, albeit unconventional, learning approaches.

The story of Jakku Song has sparked discussions on platforms like X, with users marveling at his unique approach while acknowledging the rigor of the JLPT N2. His achievement highlights the diverse pathways to language acquisition, though some traditional educators have expressed skepticism about the method’s applicability.
