Japanese Prank Where Kids Stick Their Fingers Into People’s Butts is Real

March 18, 2025 by Japan Daily Leave a Comment

Literally! In Japan, there’s an absolutely BIZARRE prank where children actually stick their fingers into people’s butts—and yes, it’s completely real! This outrageous act, known as kanchō (カンチョー), involves kids forming their index fingers into a “gun” and jabbing an unsuspecting victim’s rear while gleefully shouting the name of the prank!

The term kanchō is a slang adaptation of the Japanese word for “enema” – how crazy is that?! When referring to the prank, it’s written in katakana (カンチョー), while the medical term gets the formal treatment in kanji (浣腸).

A Prank That’s Taking Asia By Storm!

Believe it or not, kanchō isn’t just limited to Japan! This outrageous prank has spread across Asia like wildfire, with similar versions popping up in multiple countries! In the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand, children are playing similar buttock-targeting tricks – each with their own unique twist!

In Taiwan, the prank goes by the epic name qiānnián shā (千年殺), which translates to “Thousand Years of Death”! How awesome is that?! This incredible name actually comes from the mega-popular Japanese anime Naruto, where the character Kakashi Hatake uses an exaggerated version as a hilarious ninja technique during training!

Social Acceptance and Shocking Consequences!

While kanchō is generally tolerated among children, it definitely isn’t something parents are thrilled about! According to Kumiko Makihara’s eye-opening 2009 article for The New York Times, the prank can have some serious unintended fallout! She shared the shocking story of a mother who believed her daughter failed a preschool entrance exam because she playfully jabbed her during the interview! Despite these concerns, most Japanese parents typically respond with only mild scoldings when their kids engage in kanchō antics!

But here’s where things get REALLY intense – when adults perform kanchō, everything changes drastically! What might seem like harmless fun among kids can absolutely be considered sexual assault when done by grown-ups! In some extreme cases, the prank has even led to FATAL incidents!

In a truly shocking case from 2020, a 34-year-old man was arrested after accidentally KILLING his 46-year-old coworker with an air compressor—an extreme and tragic version of kanchō gone horribly, horribly wrong!

While kanchō remains one of the quirkiest and most mind-blowing childhood pranks in Japan, its cultural perception varies wildly! It might trigger fits of laughter among kids, but its acceptance rapidly disappears as one grows older. As with any prank, context and consent are ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL—especially when the line between humor and harassment can be so dangerously thin!

There is a common image that Japanese people love nature. In some ways that is clearly true, thankfully.
