September 26, 2025 by Japan Daily Leave a Comment

A  75-year-old woman was arrested in Ami, Ibaraki Prefecture, on suspicion of storing her daughter’s body in a freezer. The Ibaraki prefectural police reported that the woman admitted to placing her daughter’s body in the freezer about 20 years ago. She allegedly told police, “The smell of the body filled the entire house, so I bought a freezer and put it in there.”

The freezer, located in the woman’s first-floor kitchen, measures approximately 85 centimeters high, 95 centimeters wide, and 60 centimeters deep, according to police.

The case came to light on Tuesday morning when the woman, accompanied by a relative, visited a police station and informed authorities about the body in her home freezer.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the cause of the daughter’s death and the reasons for keeping the body for such an extended period. The identity of the daughter and further details have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.
