Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Pre-Order Sales Are Reportedly Breaking Records in Japan

If pre-order data from a single Japanese retailer is any indication, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are breaking sales records.

Japan’s pre-orders for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have smashed a minor record, which could herald a surge of success for the upcoming RPG. New Pokemon games for the Nintendo Switch have been regularly published in recent years, thanks to the efforts of Nintendo and Game Freak.

Pokemon Sword and Shield have been incredibly successful, selling more copies than any other Pokemon game besides Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. However, Scarlet and Violet Pokemon have the potential to be even more well-liked than their predecessors.

We’re less than two weeks away from the launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. It will launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch and, like past Pokemon games, will be available both separately and as a bundled set. Pre-orders for the game are tallied by adding the prices of these three bundles. Obviously, pre-order information is rarely made public, but there is a Japanese store called COMG! that does.

Pre-orders for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet at COMG! keep rising, as reported by Twitter user @Pierre484. They concluded that “the first three days of sales made by any Pokemon game on Switch with solely pre-orders had been exceeded by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.”

The most up-to-date figures show that 432 copies of Pokemon Violet have been preordered, 406 copies of Pokemon Scarlet have been preordered, and 194 copies of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been preordered as a double pack.

There were a total of 1208 pre-orders. That is to say, if pre-order data is any indication, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be the most successful Pokemon Switch launch to date.

Pierre485 compared the game to other successful Switch exclusive releases outside of the Pokemon brand that were showcased at COMG!. 14 days before their release, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have already sold 1,208 pre-orders. Monster Hunter Rise, the second highest Switch pre-order, has 797.

Following behind them was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (641), Splatoon 3 (497), and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (434). Let it suffice to say that both Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are doing quite well.

It bears repeating that this is merely one Japanese store and does not necessarily indicate a trend. According to Pierre485, COMG! only has a 1% share of the market. In spite of this, they do note that the store is reflective of the industry as a whole.

At least in Japan, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have a good chance of becoming the best-selling Switch games ever. Pre-orders for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been incredibly successful, which is probably not a huge surprise to anyone.

There will be a lot of people picking this up because it is a new game in the main Pokemon series. It also releases during the holiday season, which is shockingly slow this year, when Switch players are eager for a major new first-party exclusive. The time is right for Pokemon to become a cultural phenomenon. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for the Switch will be available on November 18th.
