One-Punch Man Season 3 Officially Announced

The wait is finally over! One-Punch Man Season 3 has officially been announced. The development comes almost three years after the second season’s finale episode came out.

One-Punch Man Returning with Season 3

One-Punch Man anime’s official website has confirmed that the show is returning with a third season which is currently under production. The announcement was accompanied by a poster for the new season: A graphic image drawn by character designer Chikashi Kubota, which features Saitama and Garou.

However, no further details have been revealed as of now, so we will have to wait a little to find out the cast members, the plotline and the studio involved. The first season was animated by Studio Madhouse, while J.C Staff worked on the animation of the second, which did not meet with good reviews. It is now being reported that the makers are looking for another studio to take over in the next season.

One-Punch Man is the Story of an Invincible Superhero

The official description of the anime as per Crunchyroll reads, “Saitama started out being a hero just for fun. After three years of “special” training, he became so powerful that he can defeat opponents with a single punch. Now, alongside Genos, his faithful cyborg disciple, Saitama is ready to begin his official duties as a professional hero working with the Hero Association.”

“However, the frequency of monster appearances is surging and it increasingly appears as if the Great Seer Madame Shibabawa’s prediction about the Earth’s doom is coming true. In the midst of this crisis, the “hero hunter” Garou makes his own appearance,” the description reads further.

The anime is based on a manga, which in turn is based on 2009 web novel by Japanese artist ONE. The web novel quickly went viral and was developed into manga with illustrations by Yusuke Murata in 2012. The series got immensely popular and sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

Because of its popularity, the anime adaptation was announced in March 2015. The first season of the show premiered in October 2015 and featured 12 episodes. Four years later, the much-awaited second season went on from April to July 2019.

Live-Action One-Punch Man film is also Under Production

One-Punch Man fans have all the more reasons to rejoice as not only a new season, but a live-action film based on the manga is also in works. Sony Pictures is producing the film after acquiring character rights from Shueisha.

The film is being written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker, who previously worked on Jumanji: The Next Level. Justin Lin, known for directing the Fast and Furious films, has been roped in to direct the project.

The film is being produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad under the banner of Arad Productions, known for producing the Spider-Man film series, X-Men film series, Iron Man and Venom.
