The Targaryen civil war, which happened 200 years before Game of Thrones, needs to be better understood.
According to the trailers and teasers HBO has released thus far, the Game of Thrones prequel will either have some flashbacks or time hops. To provide some context for why the Targaryen have conflicts with one another, House of the Dragon will be rewinding and fast-forwarding through time.
Additionally, we will witness the series’ major protagonists while they are young and when they are older, thus there will be two time periods.
We believe it is safe to assume that Aegon’s Conquest will serve as the series’ starting point. Maybe we’ll learn what Aegon’s motivation was: ambition, political astuteness, or something more mysterious, like a prophecy?
Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya will engage in combat with the Westerosi kings in this season, and we might even learn what happened to Rhaenys. The reigns of Aenys I, Maegor, and their immediate successors may also be covered if the show runs for more than a few seasons.
This series will depict the Targaryens of Westeros at their height of power by following Daenerys’ forebears. 20 or so dragons, with the Targaryens in charge of half the council. Other Targaryens pose the greatest danger to the people. Thus, we arrive at the Dance of the Dragon.
House Of The Dragon Cast
But the doubt still stands: Which of the ferocious characters will we be watching on August 21, 2022? Are there any new entries featuring some additional brave individuals who will be pictured dealing in combat with each other and dragons?
Don’t worry if the question raises your blood pressure since you are so curious; we’ll reduce it back so all you have to do is look at the cast list below.
1. Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen
For those of you who are unaware, King Viserys I Targaryen rode dragons. In fact, he rode arguably the most terrifying dragon in the entire Song of Ice and Fire. Of course, that dragon atop the black dread is Balerion.
Since Balerion passes away before the events they want to focus on, we, unfortunately, doubt that we will see this dragon in the show. However, there are more than a dozen other dragons that we will see.
He will be the king at the beginning of the series, but he won’t necessarily be the primary character because the plot isn’t actually about him. Similar to what happened in Game Of Thrones, House Of The Dragon will primarily focus on what happens when the dragon dies and his wife and children fight over who will sit on the iron throne.
Aegon II, the son of King Viserys, inherits the iron throne from King Viserys Targaryen’s wife Allison Hightower after the king passes away. The only problem is that before Viserys passed away, he named his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir instead of his son.
The characters must now decide whether they want King Visery’s firstborn son to rule the throne or his firstborn daughter. This is where the war really starts.
Paddy Considine has an extremely amazing list of accomplishments, honors, and a solid reputation. He’s exactly the kind of actor fans would expect to see on this show, and if nothing else, it’s encouraging to see HBO continue to cast actors of this level even beyond season 8.
He appeared on a television show, Peaky Blinders, where he portrayed Father John Hughes, a rival of the Shelby family. Here, he freaking killed it. His behavior was the ideal reflection of his persona.
While his persona is undoubtedly different from Viserys’, he nevertheless displayed a wide range of emotions in just one role, demonstrating his talent at playing the part.
2. Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen
The most experienced warrior in the series will undoubtedly be this character. He also happens to be carrying his own Valyrian steel sword called “dark sister”, but this isn’t just all he has.
You would assume that Daemon Targaryen, who is a talented warrior and possesses a Valyrian steel sword, would be a fantastic candidate for the iron throne given that he has his own dragon named “Karaxis” and is also the king’s brother.
You see, Viserys doesn’t really want Daemon to succeed him. In fact, he’s not very happy with Daemon because he made some, shall we say, offensive jokes when his wife and newborn son passed away.
Viserys also doesn’t have a son, and Annie no longer has a wife to try to have any more sons with. But we’re confident that everyone is familiar with how that goes: You get a little sloppy drunk, your brother’s wife and child pass away, so you crack a few jokes.
If Viserys doesn’t want Daemon to be the heir, who does that leave? What additional choices would he currently have? Rhaenyra Targaryen is his daughter, after all.
In the television series “The Crown,” Matt Smith, a brilliant actor, played Prince Phillip to perfection. We predict that he will be one of House of the Dragon’s highlights.
3. Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen
In case you weren’t aware, HBO has recruited Emma D’Arcy. She will be our Rhaenyra, a dragon rider with a dragon named Cyrax. Rhaenyra is the daughter of King Viserys Targaryen.
We won’t go into all of Rhaenyra’s sons’ names in this article, but some of them have dragons of their own. She has her own dragon, as we already mentioned. And several of her sons also have their own dragons. But she also has a number of other dragons that are just waiting for writers to write about them in Dragonstone.
Now, a man by the name of Leonor Valeron is said to have fathered Rhaenyra’s boys. Some think that Rhaenyra’s lover is actually the father of these children. Leonor Valeron hasn’t been cast by HBO, so we’re not sure if we’ll see him, but Rhaenyra isn’t with him at the Dance of the Dragons because he’s already passed away by then.
That’s right, Rhaenyra is actually with Daemon Targaryen, the brother of her father. Daemon so decides that although he might not be able to obtain the iron throne on his own, he can assist Rhaenyra in doing so, which we believe to be the next best thing.
Fans wish they were surprised that people are remarking on Emma’s appearance after only a few minutes [seconds]. The footage has been published, but Emma as Rhaenyra looks pretty much as they anticipated.
Emma has performed in several television entertainments including; Truth Seekers, Wanderlust, Mothering Sunday, and many others.
4. Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower
Ser Otto Hightower is also referred to as the King’s Hand. Ser Otto suggested that Viserys name his daughter as the heir after he lost both his wife and a newborn son.
Viserys wasn’t particularly fond of this suggestion because he still believed that his wife would bear him a son, but that didn’t fancy happening. Ser Otto was concerned that anything might happen to Viserys, which is why he made this suggestion at such an early stage. He did not want the iron throne to go to the king’s brother, Daemon.
As you can see, Ser Otto and Daemon were not friends since Ser Otto perceived Daemon as a threat.
Viserys, who was still a very young man—he hadn’t even turned 30—ended up getting married again, this time to Alison Hightower, the daughter of Ser Otto Hightower, who was also quite attractive and fertile.
Rhys Ifans is famously known for his role in well-known movies like Harry Potter, The Amazing Spiderman, Spiderman: No Way Home, The King’s Man, and many others. He’s also known for television shows like; Berlin Station, Elementary, Neverland, and several others.
5. Olivia Cooke as Lady Alicent Hightower
Alicent, our queen, will be Olivia Cooke. Rhaenyra and Alicent, her new stepmother, initially got along great. In truth, Alicent kissed her and gave her daughter her name during the wedding feast.
When Daemon learned that his brother was remarrying, he thrashed the messenger so severely that he almost killed him. Because only one person could be the first lady of the realm, the wonderful, loving relationship Viserys’ new wife Alicent and his daughter Rhaenyra had didn’t survive very long.
When Alicent began delivering Viserys boys, everything started to go apart. He still desired Rhaenyra, his daughter, to continue as his heir. So that is what actually happened, at least until Viserys passed away. As a result, King Viserys and Queen Alicent had three children together.
Spectators not only think Olivia Cooke is attractive, but they also believe she is an excellent but underappreciated actor.
When some people saw Thoroughbreds in theatres on its opening day, they knew she was one to look forward to. You would have first noticed her in Bates Motel.
She gave a standout performance in “Sound of Metal” alongside Riz Ahmed, and as we all know, she will appear in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series. We really hope this upcoming series will finally shine the spotlight on her.
6. Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon
The most well-known seafarer in Westeros’s history is the sea snake or Lord Corlys Velaryon. He turned his home into a powerful empire with wealth that surpasses the Lannisters and has the largest navy in the world.
Having this man on your side is equivalent to having the Greyjoys and the Lannisters combined because he possesses the resources [cash and ships].
Steve Toussaint will do a very good job. The issue with him being chosen to play Corlys Velaryon was never about the actor or his quality.
Based on the photos from the set of HOTD, there will be more black Velaryons than just Corlys. This is logical, he had brothers and he had children and the show will feature some of them.
Steve Toussaint will do admirably. It was never about the actor or his caliber that influenced the Issue with him being selected to play Corlys Velaryon.
Corlys won’t be the only black Velaryon, according to images taken on the HOTD set. This makes sense because the show will include some of his children and brothers.
7. Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon
Rhaenys is a dragon rider and she does fight in one of the most epic battles during the Dance Of The Dragons, that was when she and her dragon fought.
Rhaenys was the Queen Who Never Was, having the strongest legal claim based on succession laws for all of Westeros outside of Dorne [i.e. she lost her place in the succession because she was a cis-vagina-haver and never became queen].
The succession was in question when Aemon preceded Jaehaerys because he only had a daughter to inherit. Rhaenys was rejected in the council, earning the title “The Queen who never was.”
Eve Best is recognized for her roles in a number of popular Television shows and movies, including Nurse Jackie, Fate: The Winx Saga, Life in Quares, Some You Love, The Honourable Woman, and others.
8. Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria
The Lady Mysaria is just briefly mentioned in The Princess and the Queen, and the “pale stranger’s” name is never revealed. Mysaria was at King’s Landing alongside Rhaenyra at the time of the riots when the mob slaughtered the dragons, serving as the blacks’ mistress of whisperers.
Sonoya Mizuno is a Japanese-British actress who is also a model and a ballerina. She starred in the Netflix miniseries Maniac and has supporting appearances in the movies La La Land, Beauty and the Beast, and Crazy Rich Asians.
9. Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole
As her sworn shield, Criston was very close to Rhaenyra; they sat together and he always carried her favor throughout competitions.
Ser Criston, according to Queen Alicent, was too familiar, and she opined that Rhaenrya’s chastity might not be secure from him. The incident took place the evening before Rhaenyra was to be wedded.
In the 2019 movie Last Christmas, Fabien played his debut on-screen role.
Theo Sipowicz, son of Andy Sipowicz, a grownup, played him in the 2019 TV movie NYPD Blue. He made four of the eight episodes of the series The Serpent in 2021.
10. Harry Collett as Prince Jacaerys Velaryon
First, it’s nice that Jacaerys is already Baela’s fiancé. We know from canon that she had a large family and that she helped give him another dragon rider as well.
Additionally, Baela’s Valyrian appearance offers Jacaerys a much-needed boost to his credibility, and the fact that her claim somewhat supports his also helps to maintain the unity of the Black group.
Compared to either of his parents, Jacaerys was a lot more of a typical rule-follower. Since he was four years old, Jace, the crown prince, has been engaged to his cousin Baela.
A fantastic Game of Thrones sequel would be House Of Dragons. There are also recurring characters, albeit we have just named the primary ones.
