Japanese rice pizza is a real hit in Japan. After all, it combines ingredients that are much loved in the country, especially rice. That way it couldn’t go wrong.

The big fast food chains like Dominos and Pizza Hut have already made recipes and they were real success.

Japanese rice pizza

Recently Pizza Hut Japan announced that they would make a Japanese rice pizza. The dish is called Gohan Pizza, which translates to “Rice Pizza”, it uses a new base made of rice instead of pizza dough, and when we say “rice” we don’t mean rice flour – these bases are made with real rice grains.


The flavors are the most varied. Containing in some of them mayonnaise, meat, bacon, shrimp, cheese and even ribs.

How to make a Japanese rice pizza

The recipe we present here is an adaptation of Taste Made. Just as we adapt, you can also invent what you think is best and adapt to your needs.



  • 1 cup cooked sushi rice (unseasoned)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 spoon of sugar
  • 1 egg + water
  • 1/3 cup of wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of Panko
  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • Small shrimp to taste
  • 2 spoons of mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons of Sriracha
  • green onions to taste

Preparation mode

Cook sushi rice according to package directions. In a small bowl, mix vinegar and sugar. When the rice has cooled down a bit, gradually pour and fold the mixture into the rice. Place the plastic wrap on a round plate (about 6 in diameter) with straight edges. Spread and pack the rice to form a disk. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge until it hardens a little.

In a small dish, beat the egg and a little water together. In another dish add the flour and the panko breadcrumbs in another. Dip the rice dough in the flour, dip in the egg mixture, then in the panko flour. Fry on all sides until golden and crispy. Book them.

Then, mix the mayonnaise and Sriracha. This will be your pizza sauce. If you want, you can also use tomato sauce, but the best thing is that it is not too watery.


Then just put on top of what you want. The indication is to put the shrimp, already cleaned and cooked. Add a little chives and even a touch of mustard for extra flavor.

You can follow traditional flavors like putting cheese. Or you can also let your imagination fly by adding avocado and tomatoes.
